Facebook Opens Platform For Social App Developers

SAN FRANCISCO, CA -- Social networking company Facebook unveiled its new platform for developers of social networking applications on which to place their products.

The platform allows Facebook users to choose which applications to add to their profile and can control the order and appearance of the applications.  Users can also remove applications at will, including Facebook-written programs.

Facebook also introduced a new markup language called Facebook Markup, which along with its previously-released APIs allows application developers to custom design their programs fully integrated into the site.
